According to a
Daily Mail UK report, a woman was taken hostage at a Dutch radio station earlier this morning after an armed man forced his way into their offices.
The man was arrested after having threatened the female employee outside 3FM Radio in Hilversum, south-west of Amsterdam, and holding her hostage for over an hour.
The incident took place one day after one of 3FM's most popular DJs quit, but it is not known if it is related to the hostage-taking.
Dutch police cordoned off the building shortly after 7am GMT, and are said to have found a knife nearby.
Shortly after 8.30am GMT, police reported that the assailant had been arrested, and that the woman was being attended to by paramedics.
The station, part of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting (NPO) is continued to broadcast throughout the incident, however not from within the building, local news reports.
Hilversum Media Park is is home to many broadcasters part of the NPO and NOS networks - the Dutch equivalent to the BBC.
The 3FM building also hosts the canteen for all NPO and NOS staffmembers, according to local news.
The incident follows the departure of DJ Giel Beelen, who announced on Wednesday that he was leaving the station after 19 years.
There has been speculation that he is leaving to accept a job at a different broadcaster.
The media park in Hilversum, home to many Dutch broadcasters, has been tightly guarded for years, since populist Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn was gunned down in a car park there in 2002.
