Almost a year ago, on January 13, 2014, Cristiano picked up his second Ballon D'Or award at the Congress Hall in Zurich. He struggled to keep tears away in the presence of his son, Cristiano Ronaldo Junior and one of his footballing heroes, Pele. The player from Madeira won with 27,99% of the vote. Things are different this year and the Portuguese player is the clear favourite to pick up his third Ballon D’Or award this evening at the FIFA event to be held in Zurich. The leading European bookmakers are unanimous and Cristiano is the 2/9 odds on favoirite to win the prize with Neuer in second place and Messi in third.
The 2014 Brazil World Cup where Neuer shone, seems to have held little sway in the mind of the voting process and it’s felt that the Portuguese players performances in this year’s Champions League final and preceding games coupled with his Golden Boot award win will haven been determining factors in titling things the Real Madrid players’ way.
