Following Muhammadu Buhari's reception of VP Osinbajo's report on suspended SGF and NIA boss, voices have called on the President to implement the report.

Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof Itse Sagay (SAN) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to approve the recommendations of the Osinbajo panel for the sack of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency(NIA), Ayo Oke.

He said the recommendations of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo did not come to him as a surprise.

The presidential panel that investigated the duo which submitted its report to President Muhammadu Buhari this week recommended that the duo should be replaced.

Sagay described the vice president as a very strict and upright man of God who does not condone corruption.

He said: “ I am not surprised with his recommendations which I fully support. That is the right thing to do because this is a government whose whole reputation is based on the fight against corruption. So, there is no way it can harbour corruption within its own compound and still enjoy credibility.”

He said what the vice president has done, legally and morally is the right thing and expressed hope the president would now implement it as recommended.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ozekhome  said it was too late in coming but it is better late than never. His words: “The findings and recommendations show that corruption is ingrained and deeply embedded in this administration and that a little scratch of the surface will open an oozing Pandora box of horrendous larceny and pilfering of our common wealth and patrimony.

“APC is the reverse side of the PDP coin, but a worse version. They are the same six and half a dozen.”

For the spokesperson of the Yoruba Socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, it is left for the president to study the report and take appropriate action on it.

But he said the truth of the matter is that the whole thing is still a fire brigade approach to the issue of corruption.

He said: “The entire architecture of corruption has been left untouched and for as long as we do not go to the roots of the crisis, we are not going anywhere.

“Over two years now, we have only done one conviction and that conviction has been upturned at the Appeal court. We have to know that fighting corruption requires more than this fire brigade approach. The present structure we are running is the taproot of corruption in Nigeria.”
