Voting was as follows: five points for first choice, three points for second and one point for third.
Brazil captain Neymar’s votes went to (in order): Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Javier Mascherano; none of the three candidates featured in the winner’s votes, Cristiano’s vote went to team mates: Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. Messi voted for two of his team mates with Argentina, Ángel Di María, Andrés Iniesta and Javier Mascherano.
