Nigerian Army Reinstates 2,500 Soldiers, 102 officers

The soldiers that were recalled would be absorbed into the new anti-Boko Haram force tagged Operation Zaman Lafiya.

 
Reports say that the Nigerian Army has just reinstated about 2,500 soldiers who were earlier withdrawn from service for various reasons. The recalled soldiers will be absorbed into the new anti-Boko Haram force tagged Operation 'Zaman Lafiya.'
 
The Army has also screened and reinstated 102 officers, who were facing disciplinary action. The reinstated soldiers and officers are now being re-trained at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Kontangora, Niger State, Punch reports.
 
“The panel has cleared 2,500 soldiers who were dismissed from their units for minor offences  

“The review panel also cleared 102 officers who were either asked to withdraw, dismissed or facing prosecution for various offences under the operation,” the source added.
 
The Army had announced on August 1, that it would review all recent disciplinary cases but warned that it would not reinstate all “dismissed and deserter soldiers.”
