A 54-year old man living around the Ajegunle area of Lagos state has been arrested by the police after an 8-year old girl who is the daughter of his late friend confessed he raped her on two occasions.
The Nigerian judicial system continues the tough battle against child rape and sexual molestation as another predatory adult from the Ajegunle area of Lagos makes the long list of child rapists so far this year.
According to the Vanguard, the policemen attached to Area ‘B’ Command, Apapa, Lagos, have arrested a 54-year-old named Ayela man for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Ajegunle area of Lagos. On interrogation, the minor narrated how the man forcefully slept with her on two occassions.
The crime was said to have been perpetrated at Ayela's house at Mission Street. Ayela took the advantage of her while she was running errands for her grand mother after which she was rewarded with a sum of N50.
Ayela was exposed on his second rape session, after a suspecting woman questioned the little girl who was leaving the man's house suspiciously. She confessed to the woman and the crime was blown out in the open leading to the involvement of the police.
However, the suspect denied the allegation, but admitted to have offered the girl money each time he saw her because of the relationship he had with her late father.
He said, “How can I rape my late friend’s daughter? They live on Ayorinde Street, while I live at Mission Street.
“Any time I see her passing by, I usually gave her money. Sometimes she comes to say hello. On this day, she just opened my door without knocking. I swear I did not rape her.”
The girl interrupted him, saying: “He is lying. He did it sometime ago. This is not the first time. It is the second time.”
The girl, according to police sources, had been taken to the hospital for examination. The outcome of the result, which is expected to be out today, police sources hinted, would inform the next line of action on the matter.
