Court Jails Shop Breaker 10 Months

A burglar in Abuja will be spending the next 10 months of his life behind bars if he fails to pay a fine levied on him by the court of law.

A man, Peter Ndule, is to spend the next 10 months behind the bars for breaking into a shop through the ceiling and stealing a laptop and other items worth N85, 000, a Karu Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja ruled on Thursday.
 
Ndule of Ndule of Agwan Tiv, Karu, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of breaking into a shop and stealing.
 
The Judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, who handed down the verdict, however, gave the convict an option of N23, 000 fine.
 
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Helen Ashsim told the court that the complainant, Ekwo Peter of Agwan Tiv, Karu, reported the incident on Sept. 3 at Karu Police Station.
 
She said Ndule the broke into the complainant’s shop through the ceiling and stole items worth N85, 000.
 
“He stole a Del scrap laptop, three microphones, one airtime receiver, two car stereos and one Saxophone, all valued at N85, 000.
 
The offences contravened Sections 79, 287, 327, 353 and 358 of the Penal Code.
