Close to a score have been killed with many others injured in a violent attck that occurred in a community in Plateau State.
About 19 people lost their lives in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State when gunmen attacked a community on Friday morning, The Punch reports.
According to eyewitnesses, more than five people also suffered varying degrees of injuries as a result of the incident.
The attack came at a time the state was commemorating the 16th anniversary of the September 7, 2001 riot between Christians and Muslims over the appointment of Alhaji Muktar Mohammed as local coordinator of the Federal Poverty Alleviation Programme.
Even though over 1,000 persons lost their lives during the incident, those behind the attack have yet to be prosecuted.
Confirming the latest incident, spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Matthias Tyopev, said investigation into the matter was currently ongoing.
He said, “About 19 persons have been killed in the attack, although no arrest has been made because we are still investigating.”
