One Dead, Scores Injured as Chieftaincy Tussle Between Two Royal Families Tears Community Apart

A chieftaincy tussle between two royal families in a community in Ondo State, has allegedly led to the killing of an unidentified man in the town.

The riverine town of Ugbo in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State was at the weekend thrown into chaos leading to the burning of more than 20 houses and vandalism of property worth millions of naira in the town.
 
The crisis, which lasted for two days, was occasioned by a chieftaincy tussle between two royal families in the town, allegedly led to the killing of an unidentified man in the town.
 
The fighting followed attempts by one of the royal families in the town to challenge the selection and appointment of Oba Fredrick Obateru as the Olubo of Ugboland. The clash, sources said, was between supporters of Oba Obateru and a former occupant of the stool, Adebanjo Mafimisebi.
 
During the fracas that ensued, Daily Sun reported that buildings, vehicles, boats and other valuables were set ablaze.
 
It was gathered that a middle aged woman, Bidemi Mafimisebi, and others were injured during the clash.
