The Ogun State Police command has killed a robbery gang leader known as Mungo Park and arrested two members over the shooting of the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere , Adeyinka Akingbade, in the state.

The two suspects arrested were Wasiu Ganiyu and Azeez Komolafe. They were said to have been arrested by operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The DPO was said to have received a distress call about the robbers who invaded a hotel in Itele-Ijebu and led his men to the scene but they were ambushed by the robbers.

The DPO was injured in the ambush. However, when the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, received the news of the ambush, he ordered the FSARS to fish out the hoodlums within 24 hours.

The FSARS team were able to locate the hideout of the robbers six hours after the order was given, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said.

He said when the armed robbers saw the policemen, they engaged them in a shootout which lasted for about an hour. At the end of the encounter, he said the two suspects were arrested  while the leader of the gang simply known as Mungo Park, was killed.

He said some members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds.

Oyeyemi said the police recovered two AK47 rifles with 120 rounds ammunition from the robbers.
