There appears to be some tension building up in Kaduna State as most Igbo traders have closed their shops following rumours of a planned attack by hoodlums.

Closed shops in Kaduna

Amidst fears of a reprisal over the reported attack on Hausa community in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, and other South Eastern states on Thursday, the Igbo traders in Kaduna closed unusually early on Friday.

The development follows rumours that some youths are planning to launch an attack against Igbo’s and their investment due to the ethnic crisis.
The police and the Kaduna State government have however beefed up security in the state capital and environs in order to avert any breakdown of law and order.

The State Commissioner of Police who monitored the security situation in the metropolis, assures Igbos and other residents of adequate protection while appealing to them to go about their normal activities without fear.
TORI News had earlier reported that the umbrella body for northern Muslims, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), under the leadership of the sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has cautioned Muslims against any form of revenge.
