TV Journalist Killed While Covering Protest

A young journalist practicing in India has lost his life in the line of duty as he was abducted and stabbed severally.

A young television journalist has been killed in the North-Eastern Indian state of Tripura while covering a protest, police said on Thursday.
 
Shantanu Bhowmick, 28, from Dinraat news channel, was attacked and abducted late Wednesday while he was at protests held by the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura, the state’s police chief AK Shukla said.
 
The incident took place in Mandai in West Tripura district. Bhowmick was later found with multiple stab wounds and died by the time he reached the hospital.
 
Four members of the IPFT, an organisation representing tribal people, have been detained for questioning, Shukla said.
 
This is the second incident of a journalist being killed in India within a month.
 
Senior journalist and activist, Gauri Lankesh, was gunned down outside her home in Bangalore on September  5, leading to widespread protests and concern over the security of journalists.
 
Journalists and members of civil society held protests in Tripura capital Agartala, NDTV news channel reported.
