After the Typhoon Yolanda caused huge devastation in the Philippines where many were buried under the rubble of their own homes, Nigerian government donated $300,000 and some additional housing materials to the victims of the typhoon Yolanda.
In 2013, Haiyan, the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines, killed more than 6,300 people and displaced 4.1 million.
Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman of the Philippine department of social welfare and development thanked Nigerian authorities while receiving the sum from Buba Tekune, charge d’ affairs of the Ministry of foreign affairs of Nigeria.
In his turn, Buba Tekune speaking on behalf of Nigerian government expressed desire to help those people heavily affected by the devastating effect of the typhoon Yolanda.
The sum given by Nigeria is expected to be spent on water tanks for families relocated to permanent sites and other rehabilitative efforts.

There are 8,000 Filipinos in Nigeria who work mostly in construction and engineering firms while around 4,500 Nigerians stay in the Philippines to study, according to Tekune.
