Igbos living in Jos, Plateau state have locked up their shops following quit notice threat by Arewa youths.

Jos, Plateau state

Plateau State was yesterday ‘shut down’, as virtually all shops and business outfits owned by Igbo businessmen and women were closed for business, Guardian has reported.

It was gathered that the Igbo residents were just being careful so that the October 1 quit notice does not take them by surprise.

Although the Arewa Northern Youths who issued the quit notice had since recanted, Igbo respondents confided in The Guardian that they held a meeting during which it was resolved that they should all stay at home, in case the Arewa Youths renege on their promise to unleash mayhem.

However, because Governor Simon Bako Lalong lost his younger brother, Mr. Wumen Bako, no statement of assurances came from government, but natives, including Hausa and other non-Igbo residents were seen going about their normal social and business activities.

The absence of Igbo business people was nonetheless very conspicuous as they dominate the business sphere in the state.
