A banker has gotten himself into more trouble than he saw coming after he allegedly stole customers' N2 million.

Chidebere Ikenna, a former staff of a new generation bank, who allegedly absconded with N2million belonging to the bank’s customers, was on Tuesday arraigned at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
According to The Nation, Ikenna, 41, of No. 74, Akintomide Street, Ijegun, Satellite Town, Lagos, is standing trial on a one count charge of stealing.
Prosecuting police officer, Insp. Abbass Abayomi, said Ikenna committed the alleged offence sometime in November 2016, at the bank’s Lagos Island branch.
“Trouble started when customers of the bank came to complain that money deposited in their accounts was not reflected in the statement of accounts.
“The bank investigated the customers’ claims and discovered that the defendant had a case to answer. But he absconded before he could be arrested,” Abayomi said.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Ikenna pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N1million, with two sureties in like sum.
“The sureties must be gainfully employed, show evidence of three years tax payment and affidavit of means, among others,” the magistrate added.
The case was adjourned till November 14.
