No less than five persons, including two women, have been remanded in prison custody by an Oredo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly trafficking one Everlin Oghagbon and Mary Osarobo with a view to using them for prostitution abroad.

Vanguard reports that the accused persons, who are facing a three-count charge of procurement for prostitution, human trafficking and illegal entry are Rasheed, 47; Oyasiri, 52; Erhahon, 50; Osarobo, 46, and Egbon, 52.

They were also arraigned for “exporting” their victims to Libya for prostitution and other sexual exploitation.

The prosecutor, Mr. Patrick Agbonifo, told the court that the accused persons “did fraudulent entry of their victims to Libya, when they are not citizens or permanent residents, to obtain financial and material benefit.”

According to him, the offences, which were committed in May 2016, are contrary to Section 27, 14(b) and 26(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

In his judgment, Chief Magistrate F. E. Akhere referred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.

He adjourned hearing till November 24.
