Members of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists sect have killed 56 people in a remote Borno community, Governor Kashim Shettima has said.

The insurgents were said to have attacked Baanu village in the Nganzai Local Government Area of the state on Friday, August 28, 2015.

This was disclosed by Shettima on Saturday, August 29, while presenting gifts to parents of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Shettima said, “Boko Haram crisis is a calamity that befalls us, as the insurgents do not discriminate against anybody before they kill.”

“Just yesterday (Friday) they killed 56 people in Baanu village of Nganzai Local Government, as I am speaking to you their corpses still litter the streets of the village.”

The attack was also confirmed to Vanguard by a fleeing resident, Yuram Musa, who said: “We had to flee into the bush and hide and after they left, we return back to pick some of our belongings. I counted 68 corpses, some were slaughtered, while others were with gunshot wounds. The number of those killed is worrisome as corpses littered the streets of the village.”
