A man has been keeping a really desperate vigil on the street for his daughter who went missing from sight as log as 24 years ago.
Jaime Cheesman
Eric Cheesman is a heartbroken dad whose daughter went missing 24 years ago. The man has told how he still searches for her every day on the street.
According to The Sun UK, Jaime Cheesman, 16, of Wellingborough, Northants, vanished on this day in 1993 after telling her parents she was going to stay with a pal in Grimsby.
But the teen never returned home and her dad Eric said he has been scanning the faces of people in the street, looking for her ever since.
The 75-year-old told the Mirror: “I think about Jaime every day – I want nothing more than to give her a big hug.”
He said he tortures himself with the thought that Jaime is out there somewhere and once spotted a woman he thought was her – but lost her in the street.
Eric said he saw the lady walking along near their family home 11 years after her disappearance.
He told how he tried to chase after her but couldn’t keep up because of his arthritis.
Eric said: “My head was all over the place and I tried to keep her in my sights, but I couldn’t move fast enough.
“Before I knew it, she was gone.”
Eric has also been tormented over the years by a string of reported sightings around the country.
He also told of the emotional rollercoaster he and his wife Barbara had been through when a body was found near where Jaime disappeared – only for DNA tests to prove it wasn’t her.
Barbara tragically passed away in 2012 at the age of 69, never knowing what happened to her little girl.
Eric said she spent the last years of her life asking about Jaime – as he was forced to tell her again and again there was no news.
And he is now terrified he will also die before seeing her again.
The probe into Jaime’s disappearance was reopened by Humberside Police in 2016.
A forensic search on the property where she was last seen yielded no results.
Nor did her image being broadcast on Britain’s Got Talent during a performance by a choir from the charity Missing People.
But Eric refuses to give up hope and says he will never stop looking for his daughter.
