Hundreds of repentant cultists have dropped their arms and embraced peace in one of the suburbs of Lagos in the presence of security operatives.
The youths during the rally against cultism
No fewer than 500 cult members in the Ijede Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, renounced their membership on Monday.
They also submitted their weapons, including Ak-47 rifles, pump-action guns, cartridges, axes, cutlasses, among others to the state Acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi.
Imohimi said the “ex-cult members” would be profiled and rehabilitated. The event was held at the Ijede LCDA secretariat. This has preceded by series of cult battles in the restive area. The youths of Ijede embarked on a 'Say No To Cultism' campaign during which members of various secret cult groups namely Eiye and Aiye confraternities amongst others gathered to denounce their membership in the presence of the traditional rulers and security operatives in the region.
The Obateru of Egbin, Regent of Ijede and other high chiefs warned the repentant cult members to go and sin no more.
