Bauchi State which is located at the northern part of Nigeria has endured its fair share of several incidents of road accidents.

Over 135 people have been killed in various road accidents in Bauchi State between January and October, 2017.
Statistics from the state command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, indicated that 1,118 persons were injured during the period.
Bauchi state recorded a total of 244 road traffic accidents within the period which involved 2,148 people and 273 vehicles.
The report also shows that 39 of the accidents were fatal, 145 serious while 53 were minor. According to the report, the highest numbers of accidents were recorded in the month of April, with 35 accidents while the least number of accidents were recorded in the month of June with 12 accidents.
The report further indicated that the highest number of deaths were recorded in the months of May and March with 33 and 31 deaths respectively, while the least number of deaths were recorded in June and January with 3 and 5 deaths respectively.
The Sector Commander, Abubakar Najume, disclosed this yesterday in Bauchi that most of the road traffic accidents that occurred on the highways were as a result of over-speeding.
Najume said that another major cause of accidents was the lack of adherence of road traffic signs and rules by drivers while driving.
He said drivers were beginning to embrace the policy, adding that most of the drivers have started installing the speed limit device on their vehicles.
“The drivers are now complying with us on the policy. In fact, theyare the ones now coming to ask us where they can buy the device.
“You see, this is so because when most of them who have refused toinstall the speed limit device on their vehicles travel to otherstates, they will be sanctioned and be forced to pay the fines.
“In Bauchi, we’ve been enforcing the use of the speed limit device oncommercial vehicles and I amglad to inform you that it is yieldingpositive results unlike when it started,” Najume said.
The FRSC sector commander called on all commercial drivers who are yet to install the device on their vehicles to immediately do so, warning that anyone found without the device will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
