An Inspector of the Nigerian Police Force attached to Area 'F' command in Ikeja, Lagos State (names withheld), last weekend, got himself drunk and lost his AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition, while on duty.
A policeman misplaced his AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition last weekend after getting himself drunk on duty at the Ikeja area of Lagos state.
He has been identified as an Inspector of the Nigerian Police Force attached to Area 'F' command in Ikeja, Lagos State. It is suspected that the arms were stolen by hoodlums in the area for nefarious reasons.
According to reports, the inspector was on duty with his colleagues on that fateful day after he took a break to eat and also fix the faulty police van. The unnamed inspector later siezed the opportunity to get himself heavily drunk and returned to work without his gun.
It was gathered that when he was asked the whereabouts of his gun, he explained that someone took it while he was sleeping inside the vehicle in the station. Investigations by his team mates was said to have revealed that he was seen at Ipodo area of Ikeja, known as a criminal hideout, heavily drunk when the incident happened.
It was hinted that he must have gone to sleep with one of the commercial sex workers in the area, leaving the gun inside the vehicle from where it was removed. The inspector, who was once attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, was said to have been transferred out of Lagos state due to his unbecoming activities.
He was then accused of giving guns and ammunition as well as information to armed robbers and hoodlums, who paid him in return. The police inspector has been arrested and detained at the state command, while efforts are being intensified by the police authorities to recover the gun.
