Tension and Panic in Lagos as Man Collapses, Dies in Shop Veranda After Vomiting Blood

There was tension on Tuesday on Ope-Ewe Street, in the Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of Lagos State, after the lifeless body of a man was found in a shop veranda after he reportedly vomited blood.

The local residents of Ope-Ewe Street, in the Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of Lagos State, were on Tuesday, left in total shock after the corpse of a man was discovered in a shop veranda on the street.
 
According to a report by PUNCH Metro, the victim who reportedly visited friends in the area regularly, had vomited blood and gone to a private hospital in the community on Monday, and was said to have been referred to a general hospital for further treatment.
 
It was gathered that the victim collapsed in the shop veranda, where he gave up the ghost, as some community leaders were said to have alerted the police to the scene who later arrested all the occupants in the two houses close to the scene of the incident on Tuesday.
 
While speaking to a correspondent, a community leader said the deceased might have survived if he had heeded doctor’s advice to go to a general hospital.
 
He said, “The incident happened on Monday. The man had been vomiting blood and he went to the hospital from where he was referred to a general hospital. But instead of going to the hospital, he probably decided to resort to self medication.

“Later in the night, the problem started and became more severe. It was around 12 midnight that he died in the shop.

“Some community leaders and the baale called the Divisional Police Officer to alert him to the death. The police officer said they should they should not bother and that the police would come for it in the morning. 
"This morning (Tuesday), the police arrested all the occupants in the two houses opposite the scene of the incident.”
 
A witness, Joy Ibidun, said she went to the area to plait her hair when she saw the police making arrests.
 
She said, “The woman who was to plait my hair was also arrested because she lives in one of the two houses. I was almost arrested as well, but I told the policemen that I was a visitor. As of 12noon on Tuesday, the corpse was still in the shop. It was later taken away and deposited in a morgue.”
