Shock as Gunmen Shoot AIT Reporter, Disappear With Her Valuables in Bayelsa

A reporter with the Africa Independent Television has been shot at by unidentified gunmen in a Bayelsa State community, sparking panic in the area.

Miss Onisofie Owei, a reporter with the Africa Independent Television, has been attacked and shot at by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers in Bayelsa State.
 
According to Punch Metro, the bandits who attacked the broadcast journalist on Friday night in Edepie area of Yenagoa, the state capital, also took away her mobiles and other valuables.
 
Owei, who is attached to the Bayelsa State Government House, was assaulted while returning home from a church service organised by the Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel.
 
It was learnt that the armed men shot Owei at her back after collecting her phones, handbag and left her in a pool of blood.
 
It was further learnt that a Good Samaritan and wife of a journalist with a national newspaper arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to Tobis Hospital in Yenagoa without knowing her identity.
 
Some concerned colleagues and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State chapter, after a visit to the Government House hospital, where she was rushed to, said she was in a critical condition and had not been able to talk since Friday.
 
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.
 
Butswat said police commenced investigation into the incident immediately it learnt about it.
