In spite of reports that 10 farmers were hacked to death by herdsmen at a village in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, the state government has debunked the publication, saying it was misleading and done in bad faith.

According to Vanguard, Kogi State Security Adviser, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara (retd), disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja, yesterday, describing the report as misleading, and advised journalists to always cross check their facts before hurrying to the press.

A news medium had reported last week that about 10 persons lost their lives in a clash between farmers and herdsmen in a village in Omala.

However, Omodara revealed that what happened was a minor misunderstanding which resulted in the death of one Abuka Awodi, saying the death toll was not 10 as speculated.

He maintained that the state was not under any siege by herdsmen as being reported, revealing that the clash in Ejigba, Yagba East Local Government didn’t result in any death, neither was anybody killed in Bassa.

The state government, he said, was conscious of the security of lives of its people, especially on the relationship between farmers and herdsmen in line with Governor Bello meeting with traditional rulers, farmers and leaders of herdsmen to ensure peace and harmony.
