A ward chairman of the All Progressives Congress has been whisked away to the unknown by gunmen who stormed Gwagwalada in Abuja.

Abubakar Sarki, the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) of Dobi ward in Gwagwalada Area Council, was yesterday allegedly kidnapped by gunmen at Kaidna Sabo village, Daily Trust reports.

A resident of Dobi, Aliyu Bala, said the incident happened at about 1:47a.m. when the suspected gunmen invaded the house through a back door.

He said the gunmen went straight into the victim’s bedroom and abducted him at gunpoint, saying his two wives  and children were beaten and some injured as they tried to prevent the gunmen from taking him away.

He said the gunmen also took away an undisclosed amount of money and valuables after they ransacked the house.

“It was the sound of gunshot that attracted the attention of neighbours but nobody was able to confront them as they shot into the air as they whisked him away,” he said.

According to Daily Trust, it was learnt that the wives and the children that were injured during the attack were taken to Dobi clinic for treatment.

When contacted, the Gwagwalada Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Chuks Obasi, confirmed the abduction of the APC ward chairman.

He said the division has commenced investigation in order to ensure that the victim was rescued without any harm.
