One of the victims of Ozubulu church massacre in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Cyprian Ikegwuonu, will be buried today amid tight security.

According to a report by Daily Sun, the State Police Command said it has deployed 500 men (officers and rank and file) to the community.

75-year-old Chief Ikegwuonu and father of Chief Aloysius Ikegwuonu (a.k.a. Bishop) was one of the 13 persons killed by gunmen, who attacked St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Umuezekwe Ofufe Amakwa Ozubulu, during the early morning mass on August 6, 2017.

Also, during the attack, 29 other persons, including late Ikegwuonu’s wife, Mrs. Caroline Ikegwuonu, sustained various degrees of injuries.

The mystery behind the attack remained unraveled until November 1, 2017, when the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Baba Umar, announced, at a press conference, that two indigenes of Anambra State, Prince Charles Obi (a.k.a. Gozila) and Dickson Nwodi (a.k.a. Afam), currently serving prison terms in South Africa for murder, had allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

Umar said: “They vowed that there will be more attacks if their financial demands, for undisclosed reasons, made of certain persons are not met. They mandated one Quintus Anayo (alias Obasanjo) based in South Africa to come to Ozubulu and inform the elders of the town of this threat.”

Speaking yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Princess Nkeiruka Nwode, said the state Police Command is not leaving any stone unturned, to ensure such act does not repeat in the state.
