The Federal University in Ebonyi has been renamed "Alex Ekwueme University" by the Vice President in honour of the late statesman.

The Vice President of Nigeria Prof. Yemi Osinbajo at the funeral service of Late. Dr. Alex Ekwueme announced that President Muhammadu Buhari has renamed the Federal University in Ebonyi “Alex Ekwueme University" to immortalize the late statesman.
