Ayodele Fayose has lambasted the Nigeria police especially its Force PPRO over his insulting comment against Governor Samuel Ortom.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose
The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the comment made on a private television station on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood as insulting to all governors in Nigeria.
Moshood had described the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, as a “drowning man.”
The governor said the police authorities must retract the comment and tender an unreserved apology to Ortom, the people of Benue State and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
According to Fayose, the remark from the police was unfortunate, regrettable and a height of irresponsibility for the FPRO to have insulted a governor who represented one of the federating units in Nigeria.
Speaking in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said:
"It is now clear that the police have become an organ of the All Progressives Congress government, acting as if its only duty is to protect the interests of President Muhammadu Buhari and his allies.”
Fayose also condemned the police for declaring the spokesman for an ex-military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), Mr. Kassim Afegbua, wanted, asked the police whether there was any report by Babangida against Afegbua.
