A senate committee who were mandated to ensure compliance with the resolution of an ad-hoc committee on security which visited Benue State has presented its report on recent killings by herdsmen.

A report presented by a joint committee on Police Affairs, National Security and Intelligence, was on Wednesday, rejected by Nigerian Senators, saying it is ‘one-sided.’
The joint committee was mandated to ensure compliance with the resolution of an ad-hoc committee on security which visited Benue State in the wake of the recent killings.
Adopting the directive of the ad-hoc committee, the Senate had on January 16 given the Inspector General of Police a 14-day ultimatum to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of killings in the state.
At the plenary on Wednesday, senators who spoke on the report presented by the chairman of the panel, Senator Abu Ibrahim, said it only had the submissions of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who made a series of allegations against Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, ruled that the report be stepped down, while the panel should meet with Governor Ortom, hear his side of the story and report back within one week.
