A young man of Igbo descent was almost beaten to death in the Ikeja area of Lagos state when he was caught by residents vandalizing some private properties.
The suspected theif
A thief named Austin Obi was caught this morning in Ikeja (Seriki Aro) and nearly beaten to death by an angry mob before police came to his rescue.
According to an eyewitness, the thief usually came to Ikeja to steal every night. He was however unlucky this morning when residents of the area caught him and nearly lynched him to death.
Three laptops were recovered from him. While being interrogated by the mob about his colleagues, he reportedly mentioned names of popular police men in Ikeja before police men came and took him away.
The mention of names of policemen have raised questions about him being backed by security operatives in his operations.
