UNN Chief Imam Released After Paying N2m Ransom

Sheik Adam Idoko, the Chief Imam of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Central Mosque has been set free by the abductors after they were paid a ransom of N2 million.

The abductors of Sheik Adam Idoko, the Chief Imam of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Central Mosque have released him at the wee hours of this morning. Idoko, who is also the Deputy Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, was kidnapped last Friday. Click here to read initial report.
 
According to the Vanguard, the UNN Chief Imam was said to be have paid N2million as ransom yesterday having struck an agreement not to involve security operatives in his rescue.

The abductors were reported to have informed Idoko’s relatives that he will be dropped off at Okpo but was released at Amala, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State. It would be recalled that gunmen abducted him in his village, Ogrute, Enugu-Ezike, in Igbo-Eze North Council Area of Enugu State, where he had gone for a meeting.

The kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N20million before they would free the UNN Chief Imam. Spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, DSP, Ebere Amaraizu, who had confirmed the incident assured that the operatives were on the trail of the abductors.
