It has been reported that Amadu Garba, a forty-year-old farmer of Dudunni village in the Kusada Local Government Area of Katsina State, has been remanded in the prison custody in connection with the alleged murder of the chief imam in the village, Mallam Basiru Auwal.

According to Punch Metro, Auwal was, until his death, the Chief Imam of one of the Jumaat mosques in the village.

A Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Hajiya Faleela Dikko, directed that Garba be remanded in  the prison custody till March 29,2018, when his case would come up for mention.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court on Tuesday that investigation into the incident had been completed but legal advice from the state Ministry of Justice was being awaited.

He sought an adjournment which the magistrate granted.

Garba was charged with alleged culpable homicide which the police said was contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code.

The police told the court that the deceased’s younger brother, Ibrahim Auwal, lodged a complaint at Kusada police station about the murder.

Ibrahim reportedly told the police that the remains of the 45-year-old cleric were found in his room with his stomach ripped open.
