Timipre Sylva, has emerged the gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the Bayelsa State primary election held yesterday.
Former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress' primary election in the state.
A member of the APC Electoral Committee, Nelson Alabar, said Timipre Sylva received 726 votes, his closest rival, former member of the House of Reps, Warman Ogoriba, received 10 votes, while Timi Alaibe, a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) only got 4 votes despite his absence during the electionioneering exercises.
It was gathered that a total of 1,502 delegates were expected at the primary election. 19 aspirants had signified interest in becoming the candidate of the APC.
Timipre Sylva described his victory as proof of the indivisibility of the APC at the State and the national level. He told the crowd, "I have never been so proud in my life. I have belonged to many political parties such as the defunct UNCP and the nearly dead PDP. But I am very proud of the APC which clearly has internal democracy."
Warman Ogoriba, who spoke on behalf of other aspirants, accepted defeat and commended Timipre Sylva, "I am proud of the APC for organizing a credible election with such outcome. It was a fight well fought."
The Bayelsa State gubernatorial election is slated to hold in December of this year
