The Sun UK, a man and woman have been killed after jumping into the path of a train while hugging at a South Yorkshire railway station.
The tragedy unfolded at Doncaster Railway Station last night, with police now investigating just what happened.
Witnesses told local media that the pair were "hugging" when they were hit by the train.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Doncaster station following reports that two people had been struck by a train.
"Officers and paramedics were quickly on scene, however a man and woman were sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Work is being done to identify the man and woman and to inform their next of kin."
They added: "An investigation into how the man and woman came to be on the tracks is underway, however at this time the circumstances are not thought to be suspicious."
The investigation into how they came to be on the track is underway and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
A large emergency services presence was reported to be at the station and train company Northern said services through Doncaster were affected.
Posting about the tragedy on Twitter last night, a Virgin Trains spokesman said: "My heart is broken for all involved in this tragic incident.
"Services are returning to normal but so much pain will remain.
"If you have been affected by tonight's events, please talk to the Samaritans.”
