500 People In Kogi Community Displaced By Windstorm

A windstorm in the confluence state of Kogi has left hundreds of people homeless with a public appeal made to the state government to help ameliorate the pains of the people.

Over 500 people in Iffe- Ijumu under Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State have been displaced due to a natural disaster caused by a heavy windstorm.
 
The windstorm according to sources completely destroyed more than 40 houses, public institutions and made over 100 households homeless.
 
Speaking on the floor of the Kogi state House of Assembly on Wednesday, the member representing Ijumu State Constituency, Honourable Victor Omofaiye said public and private institutions such as churches, business centres, electricity poles, and wires were not spared by the windstorms that lasted for about thirty minutes and property worth millions of Naira were also destroyed.
 
“It is an open fact that this ugly incident has made the affected victims who were formerly landlords temporary tenants on the mercy of good Samaritans who are scouting them in their compound,” Omofaiye lamented.
 
He further explained that the incident has caused psychological trauma on the people of the affected community.
 
The lawmaker,however, called on the State Government to direct the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials as palliative measure to the affected victims so as to enable them keep their bodies and souls together.
