The Imo governor has approved automatic promotion for all workers in the state as part of his package for their supportive role to his administration.

Gov. Rochas Okorocha

In his address at the 2018 Workers’ Day celebration, which held on Tuesday at Heroes Square in Owerri, the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, announced automatic promotion for all workers in the state civil service, with the exception of those who are newly employed.

The influential politician also promised that because of the fondness he had for the workers, he could also approve 'sleeping allowance' for them.

Speaking while addressing the workers, the governor said, “I have therefore approved an automatic promotion for all workers of Imo State. This automatic promotion means that if you are in Grade Level Eight, you are now in Grade Level Nine.

“This is because since I became governor seven years ago, you have not been promoted. Without you, the activities of government would be crippled. You are the engine room behind all our successes.

“Workers are the life wire of every organisation. I salute your courage, your commitment and resilience during the trying times with numerous challenges ranging from insecurity, lack of infrastructure and low remuneration.

“You have remained partners in the success story of this administration. I am not unmindful of your needs. I am ready to pay you allowances, even sleeping and absenteeism allowances.

“I thank you for your patience. You are so dear to me. I can even approve sleeping allowance for you.”

Okorocha said his administration would abide by whatever decision is reached between the Federal Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress concerning the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

He added that his administration had approved new salary structure for the workers, though he did not provide the details.

Okorocha called on the workers to ensure they registered at the ongoing registration of voters, saying their vote is their power to vote in people of their choice during election.

“There is need for you to keep our legacies. Shine your eyes to choose government that will replace me,” he said.

“Make sure you have your PVCs. The PVC story is not favourable to south-east which has the least number of PVCs. At the rate we are going, it will come to a point where Ndigbo will become an inconsequential factor in national politics.”
