The World Cup kicked off on Thursday with host nation, Russia condemning Saudi Arabia to a 5-0 defeat.

Africa has other teams such as Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, at the show piece. The Super Eagles find themselves in Group D with Croatia, Argentina and Iceland and will begin their group campaign against Croatia on Saturday.

Senegal in the other hand will be up against Colombia, Japan and Poland in Group H.

And the 57-year-old former Ghanaian international said the trio of Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt will also perform but singled out Nigeria and Senegal for special mention.

He told Soccernet, “Most of the African countries at the World Cup have got very young squads. And I believe they can surprise many at the tournament.

“Nigeria and Senegal are doing well with young players who want to achieve something.

“They only need the right mentality for the tournament and they can cause a surprise.”
