All Progressives Congress leader, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi seems yet to recover from his publicized odious altercation with protesting LAUTECH students.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi

Following an unpleasant experience he had with the angry students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, who were protesting the prolonged closure of their institution in Ibadan metropolis, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has called on stakeholders to check the excesses of social media, which he said could discourage politicians with good intentions.

The governor said this yesterday in an electronic mail sent by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Toye Arulogun.

While acknowledging the importance of social media, Governor Ajimobi expressed fear that perceived political opponents could use it for a smear campaign.

Two versions of the exchange of verbal outbursts were released by an online medium and the government media team. Seeing the damage the video was capable of doing, the governor’s  team swung into action to release the comprehensive version.

According to Ajimobi; “The social media is a veritable platform to disseminate developmental ideas, policies, mobilization for good intent as well as for entertainment, but some people would always hijack good innovations to destroy the peace and harmony of the country.

"The social media was recently used by the fifth columnists to do a smear campaign against me when they doctored the video where I was conversing with the LAUTECH students on the impasse between them and their management.
