Which football club does your favourite celeb support?

Posted by Tony on Sun 22nd Nov, 2020 - tori.ng

Celebrities are often seen as larger than life; adored and idolized like other worldly beings; but they are every bit human like the rest of us.

While we may not share the spotlight with our screen goddesses, dashing actors, and sonorous singers, we certainly have some things in common with these superstars.

One of such things is our attraction to European football clubs. Just like you and I, some of our celebrities are devoted Man U and Arsenal fans. They are as passionate and steadfast in supporting ‘their clubs’ as anyone else.

So which club does your favourite celebrity support?

Davido: Chelsea

Afro-pop artiste, Davido, is a self-avowed Chelsea fan and he does not make any pretensions about it. It is not clear how long he has been supporting former England and European champions, but his loyalty to the West London outfit has never been in doubt.

He’s been pictured sporting the jersey of the club on several occasions.

Still don’t believe he is a Blue?

In 2016, he was pictured with the quintet of David Luiz, Victor Moses, Eden Hazard, David Azpilicueta, and Diego Costa in the Chelsea dressing room after a 2-1 victory over rivals, Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

So the next time you catch a whiff of the ‘Blow my mind’ crooner, the “Up Blues” chant will not be out of place, especially now that Chelsea seem to have found their groove back again.

Smart money is on Frank Lampard’s team to finish in the top four with a number of betting sites in Nigeria backing them to earn a Champions League spot.

Reminisce: Manchester United

Reminisce is one of the most successful rap artistes in Nigeria. When he is not writing lyrics or dropping bars, he’s professing his love for one of the greatest football clubs in the world on social media.

Alaga Ibile is a staunch Manchester United fan. The Les Roses Rogues boss is not your average celebrity supporter of a football club, he knows his football.

He’s arguably one of the most informed Manchester United fans in Nigeria.

Banky W: Arsenal

The R&B singer turned politician is a shining example for sticking with your favourite club at all times.

It is no secret that he is an Arsenal faithful.

Banky has expressed his frustrations with the below-par performance of the North London club on Twitter a number of times, but he has kept faith with the Gunners through their lean spell.

However, Arsenal are undergoing a phase of rejuvenation under the guidance of Mikel Arteta and things are beginning to look up a bit in the Red half of North London.

So Mr. Wellington should not have a reason to dump the Gunners anytime soon.

Olamide: Barcelona

Olamide released a new album titled "Carpe Diem" only a few weeks ago. That body of work is his 11th studio album.

Aside from churning out great records, which has earned him much of his street credibility, Olamide also follows the beautiful game as an avid Barcelona fan.

Following Barcelona’s defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the 2019 Champions League semi-final, he stated his disappointment about the manner with which the Spanish giants lost the tie; but still maintained that his support for the Catalan club is unflinching.

"Na so life be……..Barcelona for life still", he tweeted.

Wizkid: Liverpool

English champions, Liverpool may not be able to match rivals Manchester United and Arsenal in terms of the number of supporters they command in Nigeria, but they make up for it by winning over one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports, Wizkid.

Although he is not vocal about his fanship of the Merseyside club, he is a big fan of the team and finds time despite his busy schedule to see his favourite team play.
