The Task Force Officials were yesterday attacked by butchers who were operating at an illegal abattoir at Idi-Araba, Lawanson area of Lagos.

Daily Trust reports that a police Inspector, Wilson Alaba, attached to the team was severely wounded while two Toyota Hilux vans and a Black Maria belonging to the agency were destroyed.

It was learnt that the injured persons were among the security team to accompany the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives during a raid of illegal abattoirs/slabs at Oshodi and Idi-Araba respectively.

The State Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives recently began a clamp down on illegal abattoirs/slabs across the state. The move followed non-compliance with statutory standards as contained in the state's environmental sanitation laws.

It was gathered that members of the public had complained to the government about the activities at the illegal abattoir and slabs around Oshodi and Idi-Araba.

The enforcement agents who had successfully closed an illegal abattoir at Oshodi met stiff resistance from miscreants and operators of the abattoir at Idi-Araba who came out in large a number and began attacking the officials with stones, cutlasses, knives and broken bottles.
