Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, well known by her stage name Mama G, has cautioned parents that overindulging their kids may hinder their capacity to grow up to be responsible, self-sufficient individuals.
Regarding parenting, wealth, and inheritance, Ozokwor stated that rather than giving their kids everything, parents should let them face obstacles and strive for their goals.
"You see, that's the best way to destroy your children when you say, 'I don't want my children to suffer what I was growing up,'" she remarked.
The actress added that she was urging parents to allow their children to struggle and comprehend the process of creating their own life rather than purposefully causing them to suffer.
"What I'm saying is let them struggle; I'm not saying let them suffer. Proceed with the process.
She remarked, "But when you pamper them, they don't come out as anything."
Ozokwor also discussed family wealth, arguing that kids shouldn't just assume they'll inherit what their parents have worked so hard to achieve.
She continued, "Keep what you have and tell them to go get yours; this is mine."
The actress disclosed that she used the same strategy with her own kid, advising him to work for his own property rather than presuming it belonged to him.
"I told my son, go and work for your own; my house isn't yours," Ozokwor remarked.
