Nasarawa Turns 30 as State Prepares for Big Celebration

Nasarawa State will mark 30 years since its creation with a week-long celebration starting Friday, featuring prominent speakers and events honouring the state's journey and shared identity.

Former INEC chairman Attahiru Jega will deliver the keynote address on Wednesday, discussing Nasarawa's transformation over three decades.

Catholic Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah will present a paper on unity and diversity, examining the challenges and prospects facing the state since its creation from old Plateau State in 1996.

Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe announced the programme Thursday, noting that former governors from Plateau State and Nasarawa's founding fathers have confirmed they will attend a grand banquet on Wednesday.

The celebration goes beyond marking a date on the calendar, he said, recognising the people, cultures and resilience that define the state.

The week begins Friday with prayers. Saturday will see project commissions across the state's 13 local government areas.

An interdenominational service takes place Sunday at the cathedral in Lafia.

A joint novelty football match between Nasarawa and Plateau state officials is planned to promote unity between the two states.

Activities continue through October 1, when the anniversary concludes.

Akabe acknowledged the hardship residents currently face, saying the state government is concerned and working to ease the situation quickly.

He stressed that the celebration recognises contributions from governors, public servants, traditional rulers, women, youth and citizens throughout the past three decades.
