Rivers Lawmakers Push Fubara To Act As Floods Swallow Port Harcourt

The Rivers State House of Assembly has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take urgent steps to deal with the flooding hitting communities across the state.

Speaker Martins Amaewhule made the call on Tuesday while visiting some of the affected areas.

Heavy and non stop rain in parts of the state, including Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas, has caused flooding, and many houses are under water.

On Monday, Deputy Majority Leader Linda Somiari-Stewart raised a motion on the issue during plenary.

The Speaker and some lawmakers then went to see the flooded areas in the state capital.

Amaewhule said the government may have done some things to tackle the problem, but a lot more still needs to be done.

He said the governor should step in immediately to ease the situation, adding that this is why there is a government and why there are funds.

He said more must be done to help the people.
