Toddler Dies After Falling Into Pit Behind Family Home in Kogi

A tragedy has struck the Aloko Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State after a toddler, Saida Haruna, died from falling into a pit behind her family’s home.

The incident occurred on Sunday shortly after the young girl returned from attending an Islamic school.

 

According to reports shared on social media by a community member, the pit had been dug behind the house by the toddler's brother and another young boy.

 

Saida reportedly lost her balance and fell in while bending over to peek inside.

The tragedy has left the entire community in deep mourning, with many local residents on social media expressing shock over how a pit dug during play could lead to such a heartbreaking outcome.

When reached for comment on Monday, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that the matter had been directed to the local Divisional Police Officer, with further details expected to be released as the investigation proceeds.
