Pastor Bolaji Idowu is urging couples to work hard at their marriages.
He also warned that no one should stay in an abusive relationship that puts their health or life at risk.
He said being stuck in an unhappy marriage is one of the worst things that can happen to a person.
He added that marriage does not automatically bring happiness or companionship.
"Some of the loneliest people in the world are married people," he said.
He made it clear that his call to work on marriages is not a call to stay in abuse.
If a marriage threatens your health or life, he said, you should leave for a while and try to fix things from outside.
If the marriage can be fixed, you can go back.
Asked whether he would tell someone to leave if their life was in danger, he said yes.
He said no one should die and then have the marriage blamed for it.
