A devastating flood has ravaged Adere, along Ilawe road in Ekiti, leaving the residents and shop owners in the area seriously lamenting.

The flood which wrecked the havoc on Wednesday, sacked no fewer than three churches.

According to The Punch, the rain which began about 2pm on Wednesday, lasted for four hours.

One of the residents, Pastor Abioye Emmanuel, expressed sadness over the level of destruction caused by the flood.

He said, “The water flowing from NTA, Aba-Iyamedi, Egbewa and Falegan all met here, at this particular point. This channel is too narrow for the volume of water flowing through it. The only solution is for the government to expand the channel that passes through this bridge for easy flow of water."

A member of the Christ and Grace Deliverance Ministry, Ayodele Adekola, lamented that the flood did not allow them to observe the usual vigil as water took over the whole place.

He said, “We call on government to please as a matter of urgency intervene in the situation. We have planned for a vigil yesterday, but quite unfortunate the flood did not allow us.

“Several motorists were stranded yesterday evening as a result of the flood taking over the road. The commissioner for environment and one other commissioner had visited here to see the level of damage done by the flood. We can’t even quantify the properties that got destroyed by the flood.

“Two of our generators with one worth N75,000 were destroyed. Our engines, speakers and other things have been destroyed by the flood. We want government to take urgent step to prevent this ugly occurrence.”
