The KORA Awards is bigger and better as organisers of the 2015 edition have rolled out plans to reward winners with $1.8m.

Organizers of the 2015 edition of the KORA Awards have unveiled plans to reward winners with a mouth-watering $1.8 million.

The KORA Awards, which made news several years ago when it placed a $1m cash prize and plaque for its Artiste of the Year Award category only, this time raised the bar by planning to reward various category and genre winners with a sum of $25k and $50k depending on the category.

A statement from the awards' ceremony secretariat said "The KORA Awards have been unwavering in our commitment to rewarding and celebrating excellence in African music".

Speaking on this year's edition, the founder and Executive Producer of KORA Awards, Ernest Coovi Adjovi, said, "From the beginning, we have been clear on this goal. We are delighted to be back home in Namibia, and look forward to delivering an extravaganza that the entire world will tune in to watch. We have little doubt that the powerful partnerships  we have forged will help us realise an awards ceremony to remember!"

It was learnt that this year's event will hold at the Legacy Hotel and Resorts' Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino in Namibia on December 13, 2015. It will be preceded by a fashion show featuring six notable designers from across the African continent on December 11, 2015.
