See the Shocking Number of Years Medical Students will Now Spend in the University

The National Universities Commission has set yet another number of years for all medical students in Nigeria that will shock many people.

 
The National Universities Commission has revealed medical students will henceforth spend a minimum of 11 years in the university.
 
This was revealed by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie in a lecture delivered at the maiden matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Science, Ondo, Ondo State.
 
According to the eminent Prof. Okojie who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, hinted that the move was meant to help the students.
 
While delivering the lecture titled 'Development of Medical Education: Prospects and Challenges' he revealed that medical students will now spend first four years in studying basic sciences in university after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years making a total of eleven years.
 
While speaking at the occasion, Ondo a State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who was the guest of honor said the medical complex available in the state will help in projecting health related matters for the betterment of the masses. 
“It is our hope and belief that it will provide sound scientific, technological and professional training to address identified health needs and problems, solve them within the context of community and national needs and sustainable development,” Mimiko said.
 
Speaking also, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Friday Okonofua, said the university will soon attain world standard and pledged with all well-meaning Nigerians to render assistance to the varsity by contributing to the  ‘Friends of UNIMED Funds’ initiatives which was targeted at raising N1billion for the school.
