Getting a high UTME score means your are qualified to apply, not that the school has automatically given you admission, JAMB explained.

Candidates also need the right subjects for the course they want.

The board has shared steps on how to check these requirements.

In a post on its JAMB Explained platform online, on Friday, JAMB said every institution sets its own subject rules for each programme.

It warned candidates to check their subject combinations before choosing a course or changing their programme.

To check the requirements, candidates should visit the Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System, IBASS, at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng.

They should open the brochure section and view all institutions. Next, they should use the institution filter to find their preferred university, polytechnic or college of education.

After that, they select the course and click "View Details."

The details show the approved O'Level subjects and the UTME subject combination needed for the course.

Candidates should make sure their O'Level subjects and grades meet the conditions, and that they have chosen the correct UTME subjects.

JAMB said checking these rules before making choices can prevent mistakes that might cost candidates their place.

It stressed that every candidate must meet the specific requirements of their chosen school and course, no matter how well they did in their exams.
