Senator Ahmad Muhammad Abdulhamid Malam Madori, the lawmaker representing Jigawa North East, has paid for more than 20 young women to study medical and health courses at college both inside and outside Jigawa State.
The scholarship is run through his foundation and covers the 2026/2027 academic session.
The senator's Special Assistant, Hon. Adamu Ibrahim Gira, spoke to our reporter in an exclusive interview.
He said the aim is to promote girls' education and build skilled workers for the health sector.
Gira said the students were picked from the eight local government areas in the senatorial district.
Priority went to bright orphans, children of people with disabilities and students from poor families.
The students are studying nutrition and dietetics, epidemiology and disease control, health information management, medical laboratory technology and food safety.
Some were admitted through the 2025 JAMB intake to study environmental health technology, medical imaging technology and community health.
So far, the senator has put up ₦4.7 million for tuition, accommodation and other costs for some students at the College of Health Sciences and Technology in Nguru, Yobe State.
Arrangements are being made to pay the costs for others at different schools.
The scheme also covers four students at Belba College of Nursing in Hadejia and one at the Federal College of Nursing Sciences in Azare.
Beneficiaries are from Kaugama, Malam Madori, Kiri Kasamma, Kafin Hausa, Guri, Auyo, Birniwa and Hadejia local government areas.
The programme is expected to ease the financial strain on families and help train more health workers.
These include staff in nutrition, disease monitoring, environmental health and food safety, which could improve health services in Hadejia Emirate and Jigawa State.
